Brief History:

The Cayman R existed for only one model year in the US, but it was well received, and it is the mid-engine progenitor to the modern day GT4RS. During his 2011 Motor Trend Best Driver’s Car Hot Lap, Randy Pobst stated that the Cayman R may be the best handling car that he’s ever driven. This car came standard with lightweight wheels (the lightest 19” wheels made by Porsche at the time) and aluminum GT3 doors, shaving nearly 45 pounds from the existing Cayman S. Porsche also added 10 horsepower and improved handling by adding a limited slip differential, 20mm lower and stiffer suspension, and an Aerokit. This car mixes traditional Porsche philosophies—such as natural aspiration, weight reduction, and hydraulic steering—with modern technologies like PDK and direct fuel injection, making it an interesting fit for Air Water 2024.

My most unique quality is...

my jewel-green color; formulated specifically for the Cayman R’s launch. There are roughly 100 Cayman R in Peridot out of around 600 total in the US. A total of about 1600 Cayman R were produced in any color worldwide.

My owner got me because...

the Cayman R is a beautiful, amply powered, mid-engine sports car with wonderful steering feel, and it represents a fantastic value for money in today’s Porsche market.
